Authentication and Authorization

RADIUS combines the authentication and authorization services. The access-accept packets sent by the RADIUS server in cleartext to the client contain authorization information. Accounting is a separate service on the RADIUS server.

TACACS+ fully supports the AAA architecture by separating the authentication, authorization, and accounting. This allows the flexibility of using another service, such as Kerberos, for authentication, while still using TACACS+ for authorization and/or accounting.
