A driver's license typically gives you the right to drive most popular passenger vehicles on the government roads that your hard-earned tax money pays for. However, to drive some vehicles, you need a special type of driver's license. For instance, to drive a big 18-wheel transfer truck, you need to have a special type of commercial driver's license. And before you're allowed to risk your life driving a motorcycle, you need a special type of driver's license as well.

A similar thing happens with security, and it relates to the second "A" in AAAauthorization. Authorization refers to the process of figuring out what a particular user is allowed to do. Figure 17-3 shows a network that uses a relatively straightforward example of authorization.
