Safe Driving by Using AAA
In the United States, the Automobile Association of America
(AAA) is one of the best-known companies that provides travel-related services.
AAA originally helped people with things like emergency assistance when their
vehicles broke down while traveling. When I was a kid, if you took a long car
trip, you had better be a member of AAA to help in case things went bad, to get
better deals from hotels near the interstate, to get discounts at various
businesses, and a lot of other things that come in handy when traveling. It was
just more secure to be part of AAA.
To keep a network more secure, most networks use some form of
AAA as well, but in this case, AAA stands for authentication,
authorization, and accounting. The acronym AAA (pronounced "triple A," just like
the travel service) refers to three areas of security; there are more, but all
three relate to issues regarding an individual device or user. Just like an
individual might use the AAA road club when taking a road trip, you probably use
the networking AAA when your PC takes a trip on the network by sending and
receiving data.
