Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol
  Overview
We have seen in the previous two chapters how hosts indicate their desire to join or leave a multicast group using the Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) and how switches and routers exchange multicast information using the Cisco Group Management Protocol (CGMP). In this chapter, we begin our investigation of multicast routing protocols, which are designed to efficiently (hopefully!) determine a path from multicast sources to multicast receivers. Before we jump into our first multicast routing protocol, we must first illuminate the general differences between unicast and multicast routing protocols.
