Issues in Wi-Fi Deployment
As convenient and useful as a wireless network is, there are a number of significant limitations that will affect the ways in which you can share your mission-critical data. Most WLANs work in tandem with wired networks in an effort to easily expand internal network coverage as departments grow or add new employees. Wireless application deployment uses the 802.11 wireless standards for items including:
Collaborative code building Remote monitoring of the facilities Mobile access to database applications Mobile computer-based training (CBT) applications Wireless video distribution
The evolution of multimedia-rich applications requires higher bandwidth hardware for the wireless deployment of all the above applications. The current popular standard, 802.11b, is hindered by its speed barrier of 11 Mbps. This speed is really insufficient to run modern applications, thus initiating the need to move to the higher-speed standard of 802.11a, which supports speeds as high as 54 Mbps.
