Wireless Connectivity

When the PDA is first turned on, the user should automatically be
authenticated before using wireless connectivity or functionality. The
minute a user gains physical access to your wireless device, he can easily
find your network passwords, network settings, and IP settings. All
this information is enough to give a hacker sufficient ability to hack at
leisure into your wireless network.

Mobile devices provide carte blanche access into your corporate network.
A hacker who wanted to find a way into your network would use the
mobile device as a conduit between a workstation and your wireless network.
This is a simple method of gaining access to protected resources.

Your wireless network should normally have safeguards that prevent
any unauthorized wireless NIC from accessing your network. The unique
MAC address of your portable device is already on your access control
list, so it is a simple matter to use its inherent connection protocols to circumvent your security. Your mobile device already knows how to connect
to your wireless network since it knows all your settings. If you do have
any authentication mechanism, it is a safe bet that the PDA’s user has
already preprogrammed all the necessary usernames and passwords into
the device. A hacker can take the mobile device and connect to any wireless
resource in your entire corporate network.290
